Alleged hostage robbery in Concepción: victim reports theft of G. 107 million and checks

A woman was held up by two armed men on a motorcycle while driving her pickup truck in Concepción. The criminals held her and her son hostage and fled with cash and checks, abandoning the victims on a rural road.

A 31-year-old woman was the victim of an alleged hostage robbery on Monday morning, May 18, 2026, in Concepción. Liz María Dolores Figueredo Santacruz told police that two men on a motorcycle intercepted her around 6:40 a.m. in the Itacurubí neighborhood while she was driving her white Kia Soluto pickup truck.

According to Subofficer Pablo Vigil, the criminals used the butt of a firearm to break the driver's window and forced Figueredo to stop. She was accompanied by her son, and both were forced into the back seat of the vehicle. The assailants took the wheel and drove to a gas station in Aquino Cué before abandoning the victims on the road to Belén, about 100 meters before a eucalyptus grove.

The victim reported that the men took a green backpack containing G. 107 million in cash and three bearer checks totaling approximately G. 50 million. They also stole her cell phone. After the abandonment, the suspects got into another pickup truck and fled toward the city of Belén. The complaint was formally filed around 8:20 a.m., and investigation teams were dispatched to collect evidence at the scene.

The case is being treated as aggravated robbery. Authorities have not yet released information on the identification or capture of the suspects. The Concepción region, known for its agricultural activity, has seen isolated episodes of violence, but this one stands out for the high amount taken and the hostage-taking in broad daylight.
