Construction of Paraguay's first concrete highway continues at a brisk pace on the PY05 stretch linking Pozo Colorado to Concepción. By the close of the first half of June, the project had already surpassed 14 kilometers of rigid pavement completed, marking one of the country's most emblematic road projects currently underway.
Work is advancing simultaneously on two construction fronts, with day and night shifts to keep the project on schedule. The project involves paving 90 kilometers and is expected to directly benefit more than 400,000 residents of northern Paraguay.
Lot A, under the responsibility of the Consorcio Avanza Chaco (formed by Tecnoedil S.A. Constructora, Ocho S.A., and Construpar S.A.), had a cumulative progress of 31.46%, with approximately 8.76 kilometers of rigid pavement already built. Lot B, executed by Ecomipa S.A., recorded 18.92% completion, with about 6.06 kilometers finished.
The Consorcio Avanza Chaco was awarded the contract for G. 327.332 million, while Ecomipa S.A. received G. 283.863 million for Lot B. In total, the project represents an investment exceeding G. 611 billion (approximately US$101.8 million), financed by CAF and Fonplata.
In addition to concrete placement, the work includes platform preparation, strengthening of the road's structural base, and the construction of drainage systems — essential components to ensure the durability and resilience of the future highway. The use of concrete pavement will provide infrastructure with a longer service life and better performance under the heavy freight traffic that characterizes this strategic corridor.
The new PY05 stands as one of the most important road interventions currently underway in the north of the country. Once completed, it is expected to improve travel conditions for the transport of people and goods, strengthening integration between the Chaco and the Eastern Region and supporting the productive and social development of the area.
The current project moves forward after the failure of a previous plan that sought to reconstruct 146.42 kilometers of the same route, awarded in three lots for G. 541.128 million. On that occasion, only one of the stretches — approximately 50 kilometers — was completed.
