The Paraguayan Association of Travel Agencies and Tourism Companies (Asatur) and the Association of Travel Agencies of Paraguay (AAVIP) have formally requested that the National Directorate of Civil Aviation (Dinac) intervene in the face of repeated operational problems with the airline Paranair. The entities cite frequent flight cancellations and reschedulings, as well as prolonged delays in passenger refunds.
According to a joint statement released by the associations, the situation has worsened in recent weeks, with cancellations of regular flights leaving passengers in a difficult situation without viable alternatives to continue their travel. The reported damages are personal, work-related, commercial, and touristic. Among the most critical recent cases is the suspension of the regular service to Montevideo, which was left without the possibility of rescheduling for several days, and the cancellation of a charter flight.
The travel agencies emphasized that their role is one of commercial intermediation and that they do not operate the flights or make decisions about cancellations or refunds. However, they are the ones who receive daily customer complaints and dedicate hours of work to seek solutions that depend exclusively on the airline. The position of the entities makes it clear that the action is not intended to harm the company, but rather to seek a solid, reliable, and competitive commercial aviation sector for the country, with compliance with industry regulations.
The minister of the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur), Jacinto Santamaría, confirmed that the ministry is monitoring the case in permanent communication with Dinac and Asatur, following up on the complaints presented. For his part, the president of Dinac, Nelson Mendoza, reported that the authority has already initiated a series of administrative actions after receiving the complaints several days ago, which could result in the opening of a summary proceeding against Paranair.
The trade associations stated that they will continue to assist affected passengers, but consider it essential that the public understands that the responsibilities for flight operations are exclusively the airline's. They concluded that, given the constant problems, choosing Paranair currently does not offer the necessary guarantees for the fulfillment of contracted services.
