Paraguay's National Police are seeking to identify a woman found dead in an abandoned house in San Lorenzo, in the metropolitan area of Asunción. The body was located on Wednesday at around 3:00 p.m. on Avenida Los Tucanos in the Virgen de los Remedios neighborhood.
According to Chief Commissioner Benito Vega of the Calle'i sub-police station, the corpse was in a state of decomposition, lying face down in one of the rooms of the residence. "We found in one of the rooms a body fallen face down, presumably female, in a state of decomposition," he told NPY broadcaster.
Neighbors alerted the police after noticing a strong odor coming from the unoccupied house. "A neighbor mentioned that he passed by the location and smelled a strange odor. Subsequently, he called 911," the commissioner explained.
The victim carried no identification documents. "We do not have her personal data, and even the Criminalistics team could not determine her identity through the Afis system due to the advanced state of decomposition," Vega added.
The body was sent to the judicial morgue by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office, where it will undergo examination by a forensic doctor for identification and determination of the cause of death. It was also not possible to determine whether there were signs of violence, but it is estimated that the corpse had been at the location for five or six days.
The police have not registered any missing person report in the area. The abandoned house belongs to a citizen residing abroad, but according to the commissioner, "people often frequent it in the early hours of the morning." Police authorities and the Public Prosecutor's Office continue with the investigations.
