A sentencing court in Capitán Bado sentenced César Javier Portillo to 18 years in prison for willful homicide of the owner of the ranch where he worked as foreman. The crime occurred on October 4, 2023, in the Aguará Veve colony, in the department of Amambay.
The prosecution, led by prosecutor Sara Bonzi of the Criminal Unit of Capitán Bado, alleged that Portillo attacked the victim inside the rural property. The motive for the homicide was economic: the foreman demanded information about the whereabouts of a large sum of money obtained from a recent cattle sale. When the boss refused to reveal the location, Portillo killed him.
The court considered the severity of the crime, highlighting the abuse of trust, since the convict held a position of responsibility on the ranch. The evidence presented during the oral trial was deemed sufficient to prove the prosecution's case.
