Erico Galeano Segovia, who held the officialist bench in the Chamber of Deputies from 2018 to 2023 and then served in the Senate until May 13, 2026, filed sworn statements that reveal a sharp drop in his wealth. The total declared amount fell from G$ 83,382,966,123 (about US$ 13.58 million) in 2018 to G$ 52,059,649,982 (about US$ 8.48 million) in 2023, a decrease of almost G$ 30 billion.
The main cause was the loss of shareholdings in four enterprises: Estação de Serviços Alpina SA (G$ 9 billion), Mega Crucero SA (G$ 9.55 billion), Mercury Tabaco SA (G$ 0.2 billion) and Indupalma SA (G$ 3.2 billion). The total value of the vanished shares exceeds G$ 21.9 billion.
In real estate, Galeano declared 23 properties valued at G$ 48.68 billion in 2018. By 2023 the number rose to 33 properties, but the aggregate value fell to G$ 39.944 billion, a loss of more than G$ 8.7 billion.
Regarding vehicles, the first declaration listed seven cars worth G$ 795 million; five years later there were 21 vehicles, but with a total value of only G$ 1.277 billion.
The former senator has not yet submitted the exit declaration required by law, which mandates filing within 15 business days after the end of a mandate. The Comptroller General’s Office had already identified inconsistencies in earlier statements, especially concerning undeclared real estate and vehicles.
Galeano remains incarcerated in the maximum‑security prison unit of Minga Guazú, serving a sentence for money laundering and criminal association as part of the “A Ultranza” operation. This case revives debate over the asset transparency of parliamentarians and former officials in Paraguay, an issue relevant to investors and international observers concerned with governance and anti-corruption efforts in the region.
