Young Brazilian beats stepfather unconscious in Santa Rita

On Friday night, Mother’s Day, in Santa Rita, Alto Paraná, a 23‑year‑old Brazilian national was arrested after brutally beating his 54‑year‑old stepfather, leaving him unconscious on a public street. The victim was treated and taken to the local health center.

A 23‑year‑old Brazilian national, identified as Junior Hernán Da Silva, was arrested Friday night in the 14 de Mayo neighborhood of Santa Rita, Alto Paraná Department, after violently beating his stepfather unconscious. The crime took place around 9 p.m. during the Mother’s Day holiday.

Officers from the 18th Precinct found the suspect already restrained by relatives and neighbors. The victim, José Fernández de Abreu, a 54‑year‑old Paraguayan, was lying unconscious on the pavement with multiple wounds and heavy bleeding to the face and head, according to the police report.

Volunteer firefighters provided first aid and took the man to the Santa Rita Health Center, where he received medical care. Airton Fernández de Abreu, the victim’s brother, said the two had been drinking alcohol when an argument broke out. During the altercation, the attacker allegedly used a blunt object to strike the victim in the face and head until he was knocked out.

Junior Hernán Da Silva was taken to the police station and remains at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The victim, it was learned, has a record of domestic violence.
