Shortage of Pediatric Surgeons at IPS and in Itapúa’s Public Network Worries Candidate in Encarnación

Carlos Pereira, candidate for mayor of Encarnación, denounces the shortage of pediatric surgeons at the Social Welfare Institute (IPS) and in Itapúa’s public health system, forcing families to seek emergency care in Asunción.

The candidate for mayor of Encarnación, Carlos Pereira, expressed concern over the lack of pediatric surgeons at the Social Welfare Institute (IPS) and in the public health network of the department of Itapúa. According to him, the shortage forces families to travel to Asunción in emergency situations.

Pereira stated that the problem reflects the absence of planning and structural responses in sensitive areas for the population. “When problems are only addressed when they explode and there is no serious planning, the most vulnerable pay the price. In this case, our children,” he declared.

Based on his professional experience, the candidate argued that institutions must act with foresight and responsibility, especially on issues that directly affect families. “It cannot be normal that parents have to rush desperately to Asunción to get care for their children. A city and a department that have grown so much need services worthy of their people,” he said.

“Itapúa contributes, produces, and sustains the country. Workers who make their contributions month after month deserve that their children be treated here, by the appropriate specialists. Ensuring this is a responsibility we must take on with work, planning, and real management to move forward as a department,” Pereira concluded.
