Paraguay's National Police detained three men suspected of robbing two gas stations in Limpio. The main accused, Jorge Daniel Samudio, known as 'Freddy Mercurie', had a prior record for theft. The group was captured in the same vehicle used in the crimes, with a weapon and ammunition.
Alcemir de Souza, a 47-year-old Brazilian pastor, was detained in Saltos del Guairá, Canindeyú, on charges of sexually abusing 30 boys in Brazil. He was a fugitive and worked as a delivery driver in Paraguay. After capture, he was extradited to Brazil.
Three hooded men broke into a house in the Santa Isabel neighborhood of Katueté, Canindeyú, and held two women hostage for nearly two hours. They took about 28 million guaranis in cash, made bank transfers of approximately 29.4 million guaranis, and fled in a Volkswagen Saveiro. Police recovered the vehicle abandoned in a cornfield and arrested Antonio Varela Giret, owner of one of the accounts used in the transfers.
The National Electricity Administration (ANDE) has started Operativo Canindeyú 1, mobilizing over 50 employees in four cities of the department to combat energy theft and reduce delinquency. The goal is to execute 2,000 service orders and recover about G. 1 billion in debts, under the threat of up to 10 years in prison based on Law No. 7300/24.
