Paraguay reports no new dengue cases in epidemiological weeks 36–38

Paraguay’s health-surveillance authority reported no confirmed dengue cases in the country during epidemiological weeks 36 through 38. According to the October 2 report by the General Directorate of Health Surveillance, there were also no dengue outbreaks or dengue-related deaths during the period.

The recent average was 153 suspected-case notifications per week. Paraguay’s official cumulative number of confirmed dengue diagnoses for 2026 remains at 293.

Notifications increased during the latest three weeks in ten regions in total: Central, Asunción, Itapúa, Paraguarí, San Pedro, Alto Paraná, Presidente Hayes, Concepción, Boquerón and Cordillera. Asunción is therefore one of the ten listed regions; the report does not say ten departments plus the capital.

Low circulation does not remove the need for prevention

The health authority continues to recommend regular removal of potential Aedes mosquito breeding sites. Containers that can hold water should be emptied, covered or discarded; tanks and drums should be kept covered, animal drinking containers cleaned and refilled daily, swimming pools chlorinated and gutters cleaned regularly.

People with symptoms such as fever, body pain or headache are advised to seek medical attention and avoid self-medication. The same report said no new chikungunya cases had recently been confirmed; the 2026 total remained at 19 cases, including three imported from Bolivia.
