The city of Pirayú, in the department of Paraguarí, is preparing to host the 11th edition of the National Chipa Festival, one of the region's most important cultural and gastronomic events. The festival will take place from May 29 to 31, 2026, at the city's historic train station.
Mayor Cynthia Godoy de Egusquiza, accompanied by cultural leaders, officially presented this new edition of the festival, highlighting the event's importance as a space for cultural and tourism promotion and for strengthening the local economy.
Over the three days, visitors will be able to enjoy a diverse gastronomic exhibition featuring typical products prepared by local artisans and producers. Among the main attractions are the traditional chipa de manduví and other related preparations, such as mbeju de maní, characteristic of the region's popular cuisine.
The president of the Pirayú Cultural Association, Nancy Benítez de Garcete, stated that the festival's goal is to revalue the city's customs and historical heritage.
"It is a cultural rescue effort. We want to showcase everything that Pirayú has to offer in gastronomy, culture, and history," she said.
Authorities also emphasized that the festival generates significant economic activity for entrepreneurs, artisans, and farmers, who sell their products directly during the event.
In parallel, the municipality continues to push for the traditional Paraguayan hammock made in the city to be recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, as part of a comprehensive cultural and tourism promotion strategy.
