The Public Prosecutor's Office of Paraguay identified inconsistencies in the documentation for goods being transported by an armored car belonging to the security company Yrendagüe SA, which was robbed by highway pirates in Yataity del Norte on July 1.
The attack occurred at kilometer 310 of Route PY08, where at least 15 armed men blocked the road with two vehicles and used two others as support, firing repeatedly at the armored vehicle. The driver managed to perform an evasive maneuver and fled to the local police station, where he sought refuge.
The robbers burned one car on the road and abandoned two vans and a pickup truck, inside of which were bombs that did not detonate.
During the verification, police and officials from DNIT (Paraguay's National Directorate of Tax Revenue) discovered the vehicle was transporting 59 cardboard boxes, not cash as initially assumed. Yrendagüe employees reported they had been hired for the transport by the parcel delivery company Cometa del Amambay SA.
Upon opening the boxes, high-end smartphones such as iPhones, Xiaomi, Redmi, Infinix, and Poco were found, along with weight-loss medications based on Tirzepatide, anabolic steroids, facial creams, and perfumes from various national and international brands.
Among the pharmaceutical products were TG Tirzepatida injectables from Indufar, Lipoless Tirzepatida from Eticos, IGF-1L3 from the Chinese company ZPHC, Stanozoland from Landerlan, Primobolic from the Indian company Cooper Pharma Limited, and Retatrutide, allegedly from the British company Synedica.
The official report indicated the products "lack supporting documentation and do not meet the conditions for transport," especially the medications, which were transported informally and negligently, without the required cold chain.
By order of prosecutor Cristian David González Ayala, all the goods were seized and transferred to the DNIT warehouse in Mariano Roque Alonso. The tax authority will now conduct a documentary review to inform the Public Prosecutor's Office of the specific irregularities.
Preliminarily, the investigation is considering crimes such as smuggling, tax evasion, commercialization of unauthorized medications, and possibly criminal association. Criminal liability may fall on the responsible parties from both Yrendagüe SA and Cometa del Amambay SA.
