The highway connecting Arroyos y Esteros to Tobatí in the Cordillera department is in a state of abandonment, with deep potholes, asphalt deformations, and impassable stretches, especially after recent rains. Residents denounce that the problem has persisted for years without a structural solution and that interventions by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) have been insufficient.
Resident Héctor Cápdevila said he had already filed a complaint with the press 12 days ago, but nothing improved. “After the rain, the highway got worse; it’s already impossible to circulate normally,” he stated. According to reports, the MOPC limited itself to minimal patching in the Gral. Díaz neighborhood, in the upper area of Arroyos y Esteros, an action considered insufficient given the magnitude of the deterioration.
The most critical stretch lies between kilometers 55 and 60 of Route PY02, where deep potholes, open craters on the road, and sections where the asphalt has practically disappeared are observed. The situation forces drivers to make abrupt maneuvers to avoid accidents, posing a constant danger to cars, motorcycles, and trucks that use the road daily.
Residents say the lack of a comprehensive intervention creates a sense of abandonment, with repeated complaints receiving no concrete responses. The report attempted to contact the MOPC leadership but received no response by the time of publication.
