The Comptroller General's Office has given the father-in-law of former senator Hernán Rivas 20 days to explain the source of funds for a mansion in Lambaré, while Rivas is also facing charges for failing to declare assets and for using an allegedly fake document.

The trial of former Lambaré mayor Armando Ramón Gómez Arévalo and four other ex-municipal employees accused of embezzling approximately G. 9.3 billion through irregular tax invoice cancellations in 2019 began on Monday, following four postponements since December 2025.

After the Arévalo clan suffered a crushing defeat in the Colorado primaries, substitute councilwoman Magalí Franco was elected interim mayor of Lambaré with nine votes, including support from Liberal Cartista councilors, and will administer the municipality for four months.

Three candidates — Édgar Hernán Sosa, Rubén Darío Robadín, and Óscar Enrique Rolón — are vying for the position of Comptroller General of the Republic in Paraguay, with expectations that new authorities will be chosen as early as November, following a process led by Congress.

The municipal primaries held on Sunday, June 7, saw episodes of violence and irregularities in Lambaré, San Lorenzo, and Mbocayaty, with clashes at schools used as polling stations, polling tables not being set up, and reports of assaults and ballot boxes being excluded.

Former mayor of Lambaré, Roberto Cárdenas, sentenced to eight years in prison for misappropriation of public funds, is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on June 29, convened by Judge Rosarito Montanía, as part of an investigation into an alleged corruption scheme involving the collection of bribes for the granting of Phytosanitary Import Accreditations (Afidi) at the National Service for Plant and Seed Quality and Health (Senave), which also involves the former head of the institution, Pastor Emilio Soria Melo, and seven other defendants.

Luis Amadeus Monges Medina, 34, self-proclaimed leader of the Rotela Clan, was arrested in Lambaré after a rollover traffic accident on Avenida Cacique Lambaré. He was taken to the Trauma Hospital and, after being discharged, transferred to the 4th Police Station by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Lambaré is facing a severe urban crisis with destroyed streets and flooded neighborhoods, as candidates from different parties gear up for the June 7 municipal elections amid accusations and widespread public discontent.
